Dying Light 2 Stay Human - Player Menu UI/UX: Survivor Missions

For the 2nd Anniversary of Dying Light 2 Stay Human we have prepared something entirely new and truly special for our players. With this update we released Survivor Missions - a new type of re-playable content with meta-progression allowing to obtain firearms, as well as other gameplay and cosmetic rewards. I had a chance to work on the Survivor Missions menu UI and UX, introducing new content to the players and allowing them to start missions via the menu. Missions can be played and completed in single player, however they are more fun in co-op with friends. We communicate that to the players via information on the screen ('Co-op gameplay recommended') and with unique key art per each mission. Each key art shows a squad of 4 characters, placed in a mission-specific location: it may be Old Villedor streets, an abandoned road in Central Loop, a river ferry nearby the PK Ship etc. With each key art our goal was to ensure the unique setting and characters gear and weapons set, while keeping consistency in style and overall look and feel. Additionally, each mission can be played on Regular and Elite difficulty, so the screen visuals adjust accordingly to the selected mode.

On the date of the 2nd Anniversary update release, there are 3 missions available right away, with +3 new missions unlocked over the next weeks, making it 9 missions in total. It took a few months to fully design and implement the new UI for Survivor Missions and involved several UI programmers and designers working together on this feature.

Thanks to everybody at Techland for making this happen :)

Huge thanks to all the Dying Light fans and players for keeping us motivated and engaged in this project. None of it would happen without your support.

Stay safe and stay human,
Dmytro
